Marxism - Communism.  The term 'Marxism' comes from Karl Marx, its creator.

Proletarians - The middle class.  In this book, the proletarians are the Joad family and all other migrant workers seeking jobs and money in California.

Bourgouisie - The upper class.  Those who own private property and the class that is overtaken by the "proles".  Outnumbered by the lower class.
